However, Kalimpong is a superb encounter for touring throughout the year because of its pleasant weather. This hill station is often wrapped up by fog in between monsoon and winter. So, best time to visit Kalimpong is either March to May or September to November. From the month of June to September it usually faces monsoon season.

Kalimpong is famous for its monastries and other tourist attractions. Some of the most nearby famous ones are Kurseong, Siliguri and Pedong, that remain crowded almost throughout the year.

Means of Transportation.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, approximately 80 km from Kalimpong. Private taxis are available from inside the airport. You can also take a taxi to Siliguri Junction (15 km) and then a bus. Buses ply frequently from Siliguri to Kalimpong.

You can also reach through New Jalpaiguri (about 10 km from Siliguri) which is the nearest railway station and is connected to almost all major cities in the country.

1. Durpin Dara Hill

Duprin Dara Hill, situated in the South of the town, is the second most elevated mountain range in the district. The slope offers panoramic views of the scenic landscapes, advocating the significance of its name in Nepali- binocular. Oh lala. From here, you can witness the untouched beauty of the Kanchenjunga Mountain range, further enhanced by the rivers Teesta and Rangeet. You can likewise catch the heavenly perspectives on the adjoining regions like  Peshoke tea estate, western Sikkim, Nathu-la, Tiger hill top, Siliguri, Kurseong, among others. We were actually spell bounded seeing this natural beauty.

2. Pine View Nursery

The ever fascinating and ever splendid northeast is home to some of the most beautiful nurseries in the country and the Pine View Nursery in Kalimpong is one of them. For all nature enthusiasts out there, this should definitely be on your Kalimpong sightseeing list. There are hundreds of varieties of cactus on display at the Pine View Nursery. The exotic flora and lush greenery is best enjoyed with a piping hot cup of tea.

3. Zang Dhok Palri Monastery/Durpin Monastery

Located atop Durpin Hill, the Zong Dog Palri Fo Brang Monastery was established in 1970 and consecrated by His Holiness Dalai Lama six years later. Visit this place for its striking architecture and a splendid view from the Durpin Hill. It is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Kalimpong, Sikkim.This Monastery is known to leave its visitors spellbound with intricate prayer wheels and two strikingly large cylinders that fill the air with melodic bells with every turn. You can also see the very rare Buddhist manuscripts on Tibetology that His Holiness the Dalai Lama presented.

4. Delo hill

The Deolo Hill is the highest point in town which offers you a chance to witness the majestic views of the valley from a staggering 1700 meters and is among the famous Kalimpong tourist places. On a clear day, you can view the mighty Himalayas, and even identify the tiny villages and gorgeous cities located near the town. The hills are surrounded by a freshwater reservoir where you can enjoy a small picnic with your family or loved ones. Relax amidst the mountains and the beautifully landscaped gardens. You can also chase some thrilling adventures – make sure you try paragliding, trekking, and horse riding. 

If you want to catch the best views, make sure you go to the hill at sunrise when the stunning tangerine ball rises from the horizon.

5. Army Golf Course

Situated at a scenic hill of Durpin Dara, the Army Golf Course of Kalimpong is a paradise for golfers. It is believed to have one of the toughest golf holes to score.

Again, this golf course offers some excellent view of the great Himalayas. Under the control of army, this is one of the highest golf courses in the country. It also has a dosa point (open to everyone), where you can enjoy some South Indian dishes and click photos with golf course in the backdrop.

From tourism point of view it is one of the most important spots in Kalimpong where travelers love to stroll around to enjoy their vacation. It maintains clean and natural environment. As usual, we took plenty of pictures.

 

6. Local Bazaars.

Famous for its local splendor, the main market is among the popular tourist places near Kalimpong. Shop for local items and collect souvenirs to fondly remember your trip. The Teesta Bazaar is famous for crockery, Tibetan jewelry, footwear, scrolls, lanterns, handmade wallets, and food items.

A market held only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Haat Bazaar is your answer to cheap shopping in Kalimpong. People splurge on food, clothes, accessories, and other everyday products.

7. Testa river rafting

At a distance of 18 km from Kalimpong Bus Station, Teesta River Rafting is the most popular adventure sport activity in Kalimpong. Teesta river is one of the most famous river rafting spots adorned with blossom green surroundings and offers rafting through deep ravines and whitewater rapids. It is one of the among that must be includes during Kalimpong Tour.

It is a thrilling activity that leaves one asking for more. The best part about river rafting is that you don’t need to be a swimmer to do it. You just need to be ready to have a good time! 

Owing to time, we didn’t do it. But, it is one of the most breathtaking rafting in northeast. One that tops my bucket list is Teesta river rafting!

Food and Cafes.

Art Cafe is a very quaint cafe in Kalimpong popular for its pleasant ambiance and sumptuous food. Especially popular among the coffee variance, the place also boasts of serving delicious aged cheese. Besides, it has an elaborate collection of books for its guests and it offers a very enchanting view of the valley outside the window

Cafe Kalimpong aesthetics are minimal and homely, breathing in harmony with the naturally scenic disposition of the Kalimpong hills. Cafe cozy outdoor is a rendezvous to enjoy the warm company of friends, freshly brewed strong coffee, good food, and clouds rolling over Himalayan ranges. If you are also lucky as we are,XD you can also witness a rainbow to the glittering view of Kalimpong town.

Guru Sweets & Snacks. Another delicious food centre. Indulge in extremely temptiong sweets and try other local dishes. Chocochip Icecreams outside the store is a must try.

Don’t miss: Engage in Local foods. The thukpa and momos here are mouth watering. Donot forget to try streets foods in Kalimpong.

This old little town, nestled away in the far northeast, is a visual delight and should be placed high on your bucket list if you love the hills.
